ELD is a component of the instructional program for all English learners that is based on the student's level of English proficiency.  The purpose is to explicitly teach English in order to  develop a foundation for success in both social and academic settings.  District ELD instruction is built around language functions, language forms and developing accuracy and fluency across all four domains: speaking, listening, reading, writing.

This New Teacher Center site on oral language development has tips on planning and implementing structured oral language routines with students.  Includes video of students in action. The names of routines may differ from what you are used to, but the underlying principles are consistent.   Practical and hands-on.
