WHAT IS TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN?
PVUSD offers Transitional Kindergarten (TK) to students who turn 5 between September 2, 2023 and April 2, 2024. Transitional Kindergarten is a district wide, free program to age eligible students. Transportation is available on set routes.
Transitional Kindergarten/Expanded Transitional Kindergarten (ETK) will be held at the following sites for the 2023-2024 school year:
- Amesti, Bradley, Calabasas, Hall District, HA Hyde, Mar Vista, Mintie White, Radcliff, Starlight, and Valencia
The Kindergarten Readiness Act of 2010 (SB 1381) began in the 2012-2013 School Year. This new law changes the birth date for kindergarten eligibility from December 2nd to September 1st and phases in transitional kindergarten classes.

To enroll for Transitional Kindergarten for the 2023-2024 school year families may register only ONLINE starting February 6, 2023.
Online Registration Process:
2. If you are new to PVUSD, please create a ParentVue account. If you already have a child attending a PVUSD school, please login to your existing ParentVue account.
3. Please bring the following documents to your school of residence during office hours:
- Legal Birth Certificate
- Immunization Record
- Current address verification (PG&E, phone, cable/internet, etc.)
- Recent physical exam
- If you your child has an IEP or 504 plan, please alert office staff
**Your registration is not complete until the above documents are submitted**
4. If you are working with a student in transition (multiple families living under one roof) or a foster student, you may be entitled to receive additional support and services. Please contact Healthy Start to review your eligibility for these programs.
5. If there are additional questions about the registration process, please contact your school of residence.
6. PVUSD will notify families by mail in the summer of the TK site your student will attend before school starts in August of 2023.

To apply for Expanded Transitional Kindergarten (ETK):
- complete an application at your school of residence or
- fill out the 2023-2024-TK-Application-Eng-Sp.pdf and submit it to your school of residence

PVUSD offers Transitional Kindergarten (TK) to all students who turn 5 between September 2nd through April 2nd of the school year ED Code 48000. Expanded TK (ETK) slots will be filled with children who turn 5 between April 3rd through June 2nd based on priority of birthday and as space allows.
- TK/ETK is a bridge between preschool and kindergarten for young children. The program will be taught by credentialed elementary teachers.
- TK/ETK will be a half day session in the morning or afternoon.
- The TK/ETK program will offer Transportation to TK/Expanded TK. (Contact Transportation Department for route information at 831-728-6324)
- TK/ETK is a District wide program but not at all PVUSD School Elementary sites have a classroom.
- TK/ETK is the first of a two-year kindergarten program: The first year students attend the TK/ETK class; The second year students attend Kindergarten.
- A student enrolled in TK/ETK during the 2022-2023 school year, will need to enroll for kindergarten at their school of residence the following school year.
- The TK/ETK program is a public school program and Free to all age eligible students. Expanded TK spaces will be offered as space allows.
