Dear PVUSD Families and Community,
I look forward to meeting you! I am Dr. Heather Contreras, and I am thrilled to introduce myself as the new superintendent of our wonderful
school district. As I begin this exciting journey alongside you, I want to start by embracing a theme that I believe is crucial for our success together: Look, Listen, and Learn.
Look: I am eager to observe and understand the unique qualities and challenges of our district. I will be looking closely at our schools, programs, and most importantly, our students, to gain a comprehensive view of where we are and where we can go together.
Listen: Your voices matter deeply to me. I am committed to actively listening to all members of our community – students, parents, teachers, staff, and community. Your insights will be invaluable as we work together to shape the future of our district.
Learn: This is a journey of continuous learning. I am here to learn from our past experiences, celebrate our successes, and identify areas where we can improve and innovate for the benefit of all our students.
To kick off this journey, I invite our community to join me for a Meet and Greet event on May 1st, at the District Office, in the Boardroom, 6 to 8 p.m. This will be an informal gathering where I hope to meet many of you, hear your thoughts, and begin building relationships that will be vital to our shared success. I will also hold sessions dedicated to PVUSD staff and would love to meet you:
- Certificated Staff, Thursday, May 2, 3:45 - 5:15, District Office, Boardroom
- Classified Staff, Monday, May 6, 3:45 - 5:15, District Office, Human Resources Conference Room
In addition to the Meet and Greet, I am excited to announce that we will be hosting a series of “Look, Listen, and Learn” sessions in the coming weeks, held at locations throughout the district and at times to make it easier for families to attend. The schedule for these meetings is as follows:
- Thursday, May 9, Aptos Jr. High, Cafeteria, 6 PM light meal, 6:30 Look, Listen, and Learn
- Monday, May 13, Pajaro Valley High, Cafeteria, 6 PM light meal, 6:30 Look, Listen, and Learn
- Wednesday, May 15, Watsonville High, Cafeteria, 6 PM light meal; 6:30 Look, Listen, and Learn. Note: this meeting will have Mixteco interpreters.
I am committed to transparency, collaboration, and community engagement, and I believe these events will be instrumental in setting the stage for our work ahead. I am honored to serve as your superintendent and look forward to working together to ensure the success and well-being of every student in our district.
