The PVUSD Child Development Department offers social emotional services to children enrolled in the State Preschool Programs and Family Child Care Home Network. Mental Health Clinicians work in partnership with teachers, childcare providers, and families to effectively support the social and emotional development of our students.

Brenda Renteria is a licensed marriage, family, and child therapist who is bilingual in Spanish and English. With ten years of experience as a mental health clinician, she specializes in working with children under the age of six. Brenda holds an endorsement as an Infant-Family and Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist from the California Center for Infant-Family and Early Childhood Mental Health. She collaborates with children, families, and providers within the Family Child Care Home Network and the Infant Development Center at Watsonville High School.

Lupita Alvarez is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over six years of experience in the field. Her extensive background includes coursework in child development, family systems, and a variety of therapeutic modalities, allowing her to work effectively with individuals, families, and groups in both traditional outpatient and acute settings. Bilingual in Spanish and English, Lupita brings a deep understanding of community and family needs and resources. Her experience with clients across the lifespan has heightened her passion for early intervention, family support, and whole-person care for children and their families. In her current role, she applies this expertise by serving children, families, and teachers within the State Preschool Programs.
