As part of our ongoing commitment to preparing students for a future with AI, the district is launching the Gemini for Education pilot program. Our goal is to thoughtfully and effectively integrate student access to the Gemini for Education AI tool into our high school classrooms, and we are asking for your help in leading this important initiative.

We are currently in the first phase of this rollout, which involves identifying a small cohort of educators to become our "AI Vanguard" and agree to learn about and use Gemini 13+ with students in the classroom. We are asking each high school to identify 2-3 teachers who would be strong candidates for this pilot program.

 

The ideal candidates are teachers who are seen as innovative and curious, and represent a diverse range of subject areas (such as English, science, history, and the arts). Participating teachers, along with one administrator from each site, will be asked to attend three mandatory professional development sessions (see below), where they will learn how to use AI for teacher productivity as well as how to teach responsible use of AI to students. Additionally, participating teachers will use Gemini for Education in their classrooms and then provide their feedback. The ultimate goal is to open access to Gemini for Education for all high school students by the end of the school year.

 

(Teachers will receive supplemental pay for PD time outside of their contract hours)

 

High school principals should email the names of their recommended teachers by Friday, September 5th to Miranda Felton in Technology. Ideally principals would have a short conversation with those teachers to gauge their interest before providing their names.
