As the Pajaro Valley Unified School District continued to grow, there was a community need to build another elementary school. Starlight Elementary School was created as a technology magnet school to encourage voluntary desegregation. During the 1989-1990 school year, Starlight began the school year with twelve portable classrooms, located on both the Alianza Elementary School and H.A. Hyde Elementary School campuses. The school district was able to purchase the old Starlite Drive-In on Pennsylvania Avenue and was built in 1989 where the Starlite Drive-In was located. After receiving community input, the school kept the name of the drive-in, just changing the spelling. Today, Starlight Elementary School serves students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade.
