District Board of Trustees Announced Their Selection of a New Superintendent

The Pajaro Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees announced today their selection of a new Superintendent. After a statewide search, Dorma Baker was selected as the right match for our district. Currently Ms. Baker serves as an Assistant Superintendent in the district.

Dorma BakerMs. Baker brings the unique advantage of understanding the school district from multiple perspectives. She has been in the district for over 30 years and has been a classroom teacher at Calabasas, Mintie White, Valencia and Rio Del Mar Elementary Schools. She has been a mentor teacher, a principal, a director and currently has been serving as the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. In addition, she brings state-wide experience, currently serving as ACSA’s (Association of California School Administrators) Vice-President for Legislative Action for the Tri-County Region.

“I am thrilled and honored that the PVUSD School Board has chosen me to lead the district. Having over 30 years of experience in the Pajaro Valley has given me a unique skill set, with the majority of that time spent on school sites as a teacher and principal. Being deeply grounded in teaching and the needs at the sites has always guided me in any position I’ve held. It allows me to always think, “What is the best decision for our students?” I’m looking forward to the opportunity to lead the district as it moves forward to face future challenges, focusing on student achievement as it applies to all our students, whether challenging those students that are excelling or ensuring the success of our students that are struggling” said Baker.

Ms. Baker has a history of recognition for achievement within her career. She has been recognized as Elementary Principal of the Year, Human Resources Administrator of the Year, and most recently one of ACSA’s most prestigious awards, the Blanche Montague Award for outstanding achievement and dedication to education.

Kim Turley, Board President stated, “We have many challenges facing our district in the next few years and the Board is confident that Dorma’s background and expertise will provide the leadership the district needs”.
