Parent Leadership Retreat

On September 30, 50 parent leaders gathered together to receive leadership training. They learned of the roles and responsibilities of parents on the School Site Council, the English Learners Advisory Committee and the Migrant Council. They also participated in workshops entitled “How to Conduct a Meeting” and “How to Make an Effective Presentation”. Principals and District staff also attended with their parents.

With the information they received, the parents will better be able to serve in their roles as leaders at their school. They will be able to conduct School Ste Council and ELAC meetings. They will be able to ensure the parent voice is heard as PVUSD partners with parents for student success.

PVUSD staff will continue to support the parents as they take this information back to the schools. Staff are available to provide additional training and support as needed.

We hope to make the Parent Leadership Retreat an annual event for all of our parent leaders, present and future. The Retreat was co-sponsored by Federal and State Programs, Migrant Education, Extended Learning and Watsonville/Aptos Adult Education and coordinated by Ruby Vasquez.
