Bradley and Valencia Schools receive prestigious California Distinguished School Award

On April 25, 2006,State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Jack O'Connell announced this year's list of California elementary schools selected as 2006 California Distinguished Schools. Both Valencai Elementary and Bradley Elementary were selected to receive this prestigious honor.

“These schools are the best of the best. They share a vision of excellence and they have brought that vision to life. These deserving schools have worked extremely hard to achieve academic success and this recognition,” said O’Connell. After a highly competitive application process and site visitation, 5 percent of California’s public schools are selected each year.

Bradley School has 567 students in grades K-6, and Valencia School is home to 520 students in grades K-6. Both schools have diverse student populations serving a broad-range of languages and socio-economic levels. The schools were invited to apply for the award because of their high state achievement test scores and API ratings as well as the success of subgroups meeting their AYP goals. Evidence also demonstrated: effective leadership, collaborative school cultures, outstanding teachers, strong CORE curriculum, effective systems for monitoring student progress and addressing individual needs, effective services to second language learners and students with disabilities, outstanding library media centers and Technology models, safe school cultures, and tremendous community involvement.
