Teresa Rainey, a teacher literacy coach at Pajaro Middle School, was nominated for the California League of Middle Schools Region 5 “Educator of the Year Award. Ms. Rainey was honored at a dinner on December 8th in San Jose with ten other outstanding teachers from Northern California.
The school has changed immensely thanks to the work of Teresa Rainey and her dedication to improving reading and the academic literacy of PMS students. She not only leads the staff in standards-based literacy instruction, but also continually inspires students and staff to read. She spearheads Book of the Month and the 25 Book Campaign. Ms. Rainey works tirelessly to create a school culture that values and appreciates reading and readers. She never loses sight of what it means to be a middle school teacher and as PMS literacy coach; she provides lessons that a standards-based and engaging yet FUN. She works weekly with all departments ensuring that the students are actively involved in interdisciplinary lessons. Ms. Rainey has helped to create classrooms that are dynamic and student-centered.
Ms. Teresa Rainey is an exemplary educator, one who is respected by students and admired by her peers.
