Campus Safety Coordinators

Fifteen Campus Safety Coordinators (CSCs) from Pajaro Valley Unified School District (PVUSD) completed a three-day training session this week aimed at helping them work more effectively with law enforcement and emergency personnel, handle volatile situations at school better, and enforce school rules fairly and consistently with the least disruption to learning.

New Program to Involve Families with Schools

A new program to get local families more involved in their children’s education has drawn the attention of a leading education journal, which sent one of its senior editors here this week to do a story.

Parent Leadership Retreat
|
On September 30, 50 parent leaders gathered together to receive leadership training. They learned of the roles and responsibilities of parents on the School Site Council, the English Learners Advisory Committee and the Migrant Council. They also participated in workshops entitled “How to Conduct a Meeting” and “How to Make an Effective Presentation”. Principals and District staff also attended with their parents.

Integrations Grant
|
The Technology Department is awarding Technology Integration grants to 6 pairs of classroom teachers in the district. After a blind review by an impartial group of Technology Liaisons the winners of the Grants have been identified. Teachers will receive hardware packages containing laptops, digital cameras, digital video cameras, LCD projectors and projector carts. Visit the Technology Integration Grant web page

EETT Competitive Grant
|
PVUSD received this coveted grant for the 06-07 and 07-08 school years.
The primary goal of the Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT) Competitive grant program is to provide funding for grades six through eight to assist schools to use technology to enhance teaching and to promote learning.

Welcome New Board Members
|
At the December 6, 2006, Pajaro Valley Unified School District will be welcoming three new Board members: Libby Wilson, serving Area I; Leslie L. De Rose, serving Area V; and Kim Turley, serving Area VII. They are bringing to the Board great diversity and a common priority goal of hiring a new superintendent who can lead the district in raising student achievement.

Parent Conference
|
The annual Parent Conference “Parents: Teachers and Partners” will be held February 3, 2007 at E.A. Hall Middle School. The Keynote will feature Jerry Tello and Sacred Circles speaking on Culture Heals with Aztec dancing, music and theater. Workshops for parents of children ages 0-18 will follow.

Parent Survey

The Pajaro Valley Unified School District is conducting a district-wide parent survey to help our schools know what parents think and feel about their child's school experiences. You may take the survey online by selecting the Elementary or Secondary Parent Survey. These surveys will be available from February 5 - 23, 2007. Take one survey per student and thank you for taking the time to fill out this survey!

Notice of Public Hearing

The California State Department of Education has recently informed all of the SELPAs in the state that they need to conduct a public hearing on their 2005-06 Annual Budget and Service Plans, adopt them and submit them to the Department prior to June 30, 2006. This public hearing enables the Pajaro Valley Unified School District SELPA to comply with that instruction.

We’re celebrating another successful school year of parent education/involvement programs in PVUSD. Congratulations to 28 parents from the Even Start Program at Freedom Elementary School who were recognized this week for completing the the Latino Family Literacy Project (LFLP) series.
