Curriculum
Department
Pajaro Valley Unified School District
The
Curriculum Department provides
staff with support in a number
of areas including adopting district
academic standards and
corresponding curriculum guides,
developing standards
based reportcards,
managing the textbook
selectionprocess
and distribution of textbooks,
and developing policies and procedures
regarding promotion
and retention. Staff
also organizes many staff development
opportunities for teachers, including
coordinating grant applications for
staff development in technology.
The
adoption of high academic
content standards for teachers
to use in the classroom is
an important component in
improving student achievement. In
1999, the District adopted
new academic content standards
in language and mathematics. In
2000, new history/social
science standards were adopted,
and this spring the District
adopted standards for science.
District
report cards that are aligned
to the district academic
standards were developed
for grades K-6 by a committee
comprised of district teachers
and administrators. Presently
report cards for the middle
school/junior high school
level are being developed
which will also be aligned
to the district academic
standards. To view
the elementary report cards
please go to the report
card page.
Promotion
and Retention
The
Governing Board expects that
students will make normal
progress spending one year
at each grade level, Kindergarten
through twelfth grade. This
will be accomplished through
a program that educates and
supports learners in reaching
their highest potential. The
following policy and regulation
were developed assist with
accomplishing this.
