                <title>Technology Services Fall Update</title>
                <description><![CDATA[Upgrade to LightSpeed filter WHAT: We have upgraded the LightSpeed web content filter IMPLICATIONS: A different &amp;ldquo;Blocked&amp;rdquo; Screen (Blue). You may need to &amp;ldquo;log in&amp;rdquo; to the web filter blocked page in upper left-hand corner to gain certificated override access. If you are on a district computer (not iPhone or iPad) and you are getting the &amp;ldquo;unknown user&amp;rdquo; login, call the Helpdesk to get it resolved. SuccessMaker, AR, DataDirector, School Loop, etc. to be ready for first day of school WHAT: All student and assessment databases will have accounts loaded and be ready for the first day of school IMPLICATIONS: Sites can begin to use all systems first day of school. Note that UltraKey (Typing Program) will be ready after the first week of school. SchoolMessenger Upgrade WHAT: Upgrade to the home dialer system in September IMPLICATIONS: Mostly an interface change. PVUSD classes will be offered. For additional support contact SchoolMessenger at 800-920-3897 or Kyle DePasquale at 786-2325 Network shares &amp;ndash; U Drive WHAT: Staff and student U Drives have been upgraded. Student U drives content deleted at end of each school year. IMPLICATIONS: Faster access to your documents and more space for all. Students must back up their documents at the end of each school year. Bradford Network Access Control (NAC) to be implemented this Fall WHAT: Increased Network security. Kind of like Starbucks, hotels, airports, etc. where you have to log into the wireless network via a web page IMPLICATIONS: Interface and process change for people to access the wireless network. Will be rolled out to school sites this Fall and winter Site Techs Schedule and Reminder WHAT: Schedule is available from Technical Support link off district web site IMPLICATIONS: Not many changes this year from last year. District Techs to &amp;ldquo;double up&amp;rdquo; at Tuesday scheduled sites to further assist with &amp;ldquo;payback&amp;rdquo; for staff meeting times. Information sent to each site regarding absence forms and responsibilities. Student Passwords Increased to eight digits WHAT: All student passwords are now eight digits long IMPLICATIONS: Students need to log in with their new password. Secondary students are encouraged to change their password to a more secure (8 digit) password Google apps to be rolled out this Fall WHAT: Google Apps, an excellent, cloud-based set of collaboration and productivity tools will be accessible by students and staff via their regular PVUSD logon credentials IMPLICATIONS: Teachers can take classes from Tech Services ( ) on ways to access and integrate Google Apps into their class curriculum. No Gmail will be available for students or staff at this time. Technology Liaisons Update WHAT: Every site needs to have a Technology Liaison (certificated teacher extra duty) IMPLICATIONS: Tech Services pays for substitute but site arranges for substitute. If your Tech Liaison has changed for this year, please notify Tim. Meeting dates are: 9/6, 11/9, 2/7, 3/28. Technology Liaison Surveys WHAT: Last spring the Tech Liaisons completed a survey about their activities last year. IMPLICATIONS: Review the survey data with Harendra and praise/support your Tech Liaison to accomplish their annual goals and activities. Speak with Tim about any concerns or needs. PVUSD Net Safety Plan WHAT: Board policy and Erate requirements make cyber safety a critical educational experience for all PVUSD students IMPLICATIONS: Twice a year PV schools will organize an assembly or class presentations followed by a discussion or writing assignment regarding appropriate online behavior. The PVUSD Net Safety Plan Resource page: District Web Site -- Staff Tab District Technician Support WHAT: District Technicians (Saul and Ovidio) work on district-wide issues and man the help desk. District Techs assist with desktop support at sites without Site Techs as time permits with priority for office computers and printers. IMPLICATIONS: Schools without Site Techs need to make use of the Help Desk to gain immediate support for classroom technology New Helpdesk Hours Available from 7:30AM to 4:30PM each school day Temporary Student ID (9999) WHAT: Student temporary IDs will now be changed to permanent IDs every 2-3 days IMPLICATIONS: Previously it was every 2 weeks so now students should have access to computers and resources like SuccessMaker and AR within a few days of starting school with PVUSD. ]]></description>
