KINDERGARTEN ENROLLMENT
2013-2014
On March 1, 2013, Kindergarten enrollment begins for the 2013-2014 school year. A child is eligible to begin Kindergarten if his/her fifth birthday falls on or before October 1, 2013. The enrollment process begins at your home or resident school.
Each school will also have a Kindergarten Round Up where you will have the opportunity to register your child. During the Kindergarten Round Up, parents are encouraged to enroll kindergarten-age children who are five (5) years of age on or before October 1, 2013. A Kindergarten Round Up schedule will be available at the end of February, 2013.
If your child turns 5 on or between October 2ndand December 2nd, your child is eligible to attend “Transitional Kindergarten.”
In 2010, California passed the Kindergarten Readiness Act, which gradually shifts the birthday cut-off for kindergarten enrollment:
- For 2013-2014 all children entering kindergarten must turn 5 on or before October 1.
- For 2014-2015 and beyond, all children entering kindergarten must turn 5 on or before September 1.
During the district’s Kindergarten Round Up or enrollment window, which begins in March for the 2013-2014 school year, you can enroll your child in Transitional Kindergarten (TK).
