Providing Safe and Up-To-Date Classrooms for Our Students:

Measure L - Pajaro Valley Unified School Bond November 2012

To ensure students in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District have access to safe and up-to-date classrooms that support a 21st century education, the Pajaro Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously to place a local school bond measure on the November 6, 2012 ballot.

Measure L will provide $150 million to repair and upgrade local schools in our community and will cost property owners no more than $38 per $100,000 of assessed value annually. All registered voters in Pajaro Valley Unified School District will have the opportunity to vote on the measure.

 Measure L Will:

  • Provide local funding that will stay exclusively in our community—this funding cannot be taken away by the state or be used for administrative salaries, benefits or pensions
  • Improve academic instruction in core subjects like reading, writing, math, science and technology
  • Upgrade classrooms, libraries, science labs and computer systems to attract qualified teachers and keep pace with technology for 21st century skills
  • Modernize school facilities and remove hazardous mold and asbestos from classrooms
  • Improve lighting, fire-detection, alarms, emergency communication and security systems, and electrical systems to provide a safe learning environment for our students
  • Upgrade old, leaking roofs, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems to improve energy efficiency and save money which can be invested directly in classroom instruction
  • Ensure that all students have access to comparable academic and extracurricular facilities

Fiscal Accountability Will Ensure Funds Are Spent Only On Voter-Approved Projects

  • Every penny from Measure L will benefit local schools and be locally-controlled—the state can’t take away any funds
  • Measure L will qualify our schools for millions of dollars in state matching funds that would otherwise go to other communities
  • No funds can be used for salaries, benefits or pensions for administrators, teachers or any school employees
  • Independent citizens’ oversight and annual audits will ensure funds are spent as promised
