Former Pajaro Valley Unified School District Superintendent (PVUSD) John Casey had a vision for a home study charter school for grades 9-12 in the district. A committee of teachers, parents, students, and community members from Pajaro Family Education/Home Independent Study (K-8) wrote the Pacific Coast Charter and the school officially became a charter school in January of 1999.
The Pacific Coast Charter School (PCCS) was initially located on the Alianza Charter School campus in Watsonville in a portable classroom. In January 2000, the school was relocated to the former Watsonville Community Hospital. The Hospital was remodeled to house the PVUSD district offices, Watsonville/Aptos Adult Education, and the Academic Vocational Charter Insititute. |
