Our first Parent Workshop and Orientation to GATE Services in PVUSD is scheduled for
November 7 in Aptos and November 15 in Watsonville.

These workshops are open to ALL parents/guardians of PVUSD students, and especially parents/guardians of gifted children.
PVUSD teachers, administrators and other staff are also invited to join us!
During each workshop listed above:
In the first hour, teacher Dawn Binder will talk about “Understanding MindSets”
Why do some of our most capable students underachieve? How do students’ views about their own intelligence —and the nature of
intelligence itself— effect student motivation and achievement? Come and find out what psychologist, researcher and Stanford professor
Carol Dweck has found.

In the second hour, the GATE staff will present an overview of GATE services offered in PVUSD and
answer your questions about GATE.
- 16-Page Overview of giftedness, what it means to be gifted, what it means to be a parent of a gifted child, PVUSD GATE services,
and information on how parents can get support for themselves and their gifted child, and how they can get involved
in GATE Services in PVUSD.

that offer students opportunities for extra challenge and interesting extensions beyond the basic curriculum. These ITUs are
based on the themes covered in the Houghton Mifflin Reading Program, and are currently available for grades 4 – 6.
