SENG: Supporting the Emotional Needs of the Gifted

A Parent Workshop and Support Group
5 Sessions during March and April 2009

As a parent, do you ever feel overwhelmed by the challenges of raising a gifted child? Gifted kids can be intense, persistent and exhausting, no doubt. However, they can also be delightful and surprising. It is a daunting responsibility to ensure that your child has the opportunity to fulfill their potential. Parents often tell us that they wish their child was just “average.” Raising a gifted child can be a very lonely job, especially if none of your friends are experiencing similar issues.

Parents play a critical role in their gifted child's education. A solid home foundation is vitally important, especially if a gifted child is experiencing alienation or feeling out of place at school or with peers. Research indicates that the most effective guidance and problem prevention for gifted children lies with caring, knowledgeable, and supportive parents.

To support the parents of gifted children in PVUSD, the GATE Services staff offers a series of workshops on “SENG: Supporting the Emothional Needs of the Gifted.”
