Gifted and Talented Education > GATE Liaisons Network

In order to provide additional support to classroom teachers, and to build capacity at the school sites, we are initiating a GATE Liaison Network. Modeled somewhat after the PVUSD Tech Liaison Network, we hope to create a collaborative working group of teachers who will be able to assist their colleagues with resources and strategies for differentiating instruction and meeting the needs of gifted students, and help strengthen GATE services throughout the district.

GATE Liaison Description & Application Form:

The goals & objectives of this program are:

  • To increase the presence and awareness of PVUSD GATE Services at all school sites, among teachers, students, parents and the community.
  • To achieve the district goal that every identified GATE student receives differentiated instruction targeted at their academic level throughout the regular school day.
  • To increase the number of underrepresented students from immigrant and second language families graduating from college.
  • To create a network of professionals for sharing information, supporting teachers and making recommendations.
  • To increase communication to students and parents about how classroom teachers are meeting the needs of their gifted students.

The GATE Liaisons will meet together as a team several times during the course of the school year, receive additional professional development around gifted education, and participate in district-level GATE activities. They have agreed to fullfill the following obligations throughout the school year:

  • Represent their site at 3 GATE Advisory Council (GAC) meetings (evenings at the D.O.)
  • Attend 4 hours of GATE Liaison training (in the fall) on a Saturday or after school
  • Participate in 3 GATE Job-Alike meetings (after school)
  • Attend one of two Fall GATE Parent Meetings (evening)
  • Help disseminate information about GATE and differentiation to staff, parents and SSC
  • Facilitate sharing of GATE model lessons or inservice (in collaboration with GATE staff) at site
  • Submit a one page report at the end of the year describing their experience
  • Maintain a GATE Liaison Binder

Thanks to generous funding support from the MAIA Foundation, we are offering stipends and additional perks to th0se teachers willing to devote extra time and effort in order to serve as their school’s GATE Liaison. The MAIA Foundation, with the generous support of The Borina Foundation and other community-based donors, is working with PVUSD's GATE Services office and individual schools to prepare the district’s most promising students for higher education.
