Fall 2007 GATE Student Identification

Every year, the PVUSD GATE Services Office puts a great deal of effort into identifying advanced students who meet several criteria and should be identified as “GATE.”

Fall 2007 Update:

All of the GATE testing was completed this fall during the months of August and September. GATE Placement Committee meetings were completed at each elementary school site and parent notification letters were mailed out the second week in October.

Incuded in the mailings were the following pieces of information:

(Click on the links above if you are missing any of these documents —except for the Parent Notification letter, which is filled out by the GATE staff for each individual student.)

All identification procedures are based on the California GATE Standards:

2:2b   Evidence from multiple sources is used to determine eligibility and a data record or file is established for each nominee.

The sources we use in our GATE student identification process include:

  • Teacher Recommendations
  • Staff Recommendations
  • Standardized Achievement Tests (CAT6 and CST)
  • CELDT, ADEPT Scores
  • PVUSD Reading and Writing Scores
  • OLSAT or Raven Progressive Matrices Test
  • Parent Inventory
  • English Language Learners progress as measured by teacher and performance
  • Work samples
  • Classroom Performance
  • Previous GATE referral forms/data

You can read more about the Eligibility Criteria for more information on who qualifies to be identified as a gifted learner.
