Subskills: Students must complete each subskill exercise three times in a row at a consistent pace...

Yes...THREE TIMES IN A ROW AT THE SAME PACE while meeting the mastery criteria for accuracy.

They must meet the criteria for both accuracy and speed with a variation no more than 120 or 100 milliseconds on each trial. If you have students who are unable to complete subskills at a consistent pace, look at information on the teaching tips page. Subskills are designed to teach students to track words on a page consistently which helps develop reading fluency. The guidelines are strict and unforgiving but research supports the criteria so only manipulate or adjust it as a last possible resort.

Phonemic Awareness: Students must identify sounds and complete the puzzles with 85% accuracy. Be sure students know what part of the word they are trying to match or identify. As students progress, they will be challenged to listen to and choose the order of sounds which blend to make the word. Again, be sure students listen to the directions in the videos to understand the current goal.
