Curriculum and Instruction: I Can Do Standards
These “I CAN DO STANDARDS” present the California Content Standards in Language Arts and Mathematics in "kid-friendly" language. They have been written to stay true to each standard but with an “I CAN DO!” attitude. They are intended to be used with students and parents to have them participate in goal setting and gaining mastery.
The files below are .pdf and require Adobe Acrobat Reader to be viewed, which is available for free download at www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2_allversions.html.
The files listed below are the "Poster Style" standards, printable on 8-½ x 11 paper, and easily enlarged to poster size. Also developed were two other styles:
- "Journal Style" standards: in which standards are listed in a table with multiple columns of "check boxes," meant to be used with students to set goals, keep track, and reflect on their learning; and
- "Individual Style" standards: in which each standard is in large-print on its own page, meant to be posted with student work on classroom walls.
These formats have not been updated recently, but we hope to have them available soon.
The I Can Do Standards were developed under the leadership of Chris Crubaugh, former GATE Coordinator. They have been revised several times over the last several years, including significant improvements in the Spanish translations completed in 2007–2008. Many thanks to the following people for their tremendous effort on this project: Chris Crubaugh, Lyn Olson, Jennifer Fish, Dawn Binder, Victoria Sorenson, Wes Johnson, Francisco Quintero, Carlos Landaverry, Rosie Gomez, Sylvia Méndez, Zaida Raygoza, Marla Almarez, Christina Oakden, and others.
