Introduction to the PC (session 1 of 3-Using Windows XP)

This intro course is for anyone ready for basic entry level instruction in the use of Microsoft Windows XP. Don't be afraid, we are starting at the very beginning. There is no reason to hide your ignorance any longer. Come to this training and get started using a PC. Any PVUSD employee that attends all three sessions will receive a flash drive. The flash drive will be used during the third (file management) session. Here are some of the basic skills that will be covered in this session:

- Booting the computer
- Using the mouse
- The start menu
- Running programs
- The desktop
- The taskbar

Introduction to the PC (session 2 of 3-Configuring Windows)

The second session is still a beginner level course that goes a bit deeper into the use and configuration of Windows XP. It is recommended that you attend the first session but it is not a requirement. Here are some of the basic skills that will be covered in this session:

- The control panel
- Display settings
- Desktop configuration

- View settings

- Folder Options
- Power options
- Printers
- Taskbar and start menu

Introduction to the PC (session 3 of 3-File Management)

The third session focuses on managing files in the Windows XP environment. You will be given a USB flash drive at the beginning of the class. All students who have attended the first two sessions will be allowed to keep their flash drive. File management can be very complicated. After this session you will have a much better understanding of the concept of file size and file type. You will be able to better manage files and make sure that important files are backed up. Here are some of the basic skills that will be covered in this session:

- Accessing Drives

- USB Drives

- Drive properties
- Organizing files and folders

- Sorting files

- File Properties
- Saving, copying, moving, renaming, deleting files
- Backing up important files
